The AI industry sector has significant untapped global export potential, positioning the UK as a world leader and delivering increased inward investment and economic growth.

As the AI sector grows, UK businesses have substantial opportunities to expand into global markets. Key strategies include enhancing trade partnerships and harmonising AI standards with international frameworks to facilitate the export of AI products and services. The UK has begun to strengthen ties with other leading AI countries, participating in collaborative projects, such as the Global Partnership on Artificial Intelligence (GPAI), which focuses on responsible AI development and deployment​.

Because the UK AI sector is very new and many of the UK businesses are still scaling up, the export opportunity is relatively unexplored. Collectively, UK AI businesses provide unique products and services that other counties and blocs could use to accelerate their own AI ecosystems. UKAI is keen to work with the Government and its agencies, to explore how to promote UK AI businesses through existing international partnerships and missions.
