Impact on Young People

The technology we are building today will form the society that our children live, work and thrive in. We have a responsibility to understand the opportunities and mitigate the risks. This discussion will explore how AI is transforming education, influencing mental health through hyper-personalised content, and reshaping the skills needed for future careers. We will also consider the importance of teaching ethical digital citizenship, and the urgent need to protect young people from online risks such as deepfakes, exploitation, and misinformation. We will explore who should take responsibility and the role of national governments and international regulation.

  • Learn from leading experts from industry, academia, government and student voices on how to promote ethical, safe, and responsible use of AI among the next generation.
  • Be part of the solution by helping to shape policies and strategies that protect and empower young people in an AI-driven world.

UKAI is bringing together a group of young people, with policy-makers, business leaders, technologists and third sector groups in an exclusive roundtable to discuss these issues and set out an agenda for further research. Working with the University of Warwick and One-Hive, the output from this roundtable will be written up into an initial report. Over the next few months, further research and evidence will be gathered and a final report created for publication in the autumn.

Dr Shweta Singh

His research empowers fair and effective digital ecosystems, with a focus on youth, education, and societal impact. He advises governments and institutions on aligning AI innovation with equitable access and opportunity.

Dr. Scott Schanke

Dr. Scott Schanke is an Assistant Professor at the University of Wisconsin, specializing in AI, chatbots, and behavioral data science. His research focuses on enhancing AI-driven decision-making, mitigating biases, and exploring the societal impact of chatbots and AI systems in communication, with an emphasis on ethics, transparency, and user fairness.

Rushab Shah is CEO of OneHive, a Tech for Good organisation enabling social mobility and equitable opportunity. His work supports NGOs, governments, and communities to serve socially deprived young people, using their AI powered, data-driven platform to deliver measurable impact in education, skills, and employment pathways.

Lord Tony Sewell

Dr Lord Tony Sewell CBE is an international education leader and champion for youth empowerment to drive innovation, and is the founder of Generating Genius, a charity widening participation into STEM. A former teacher and academic, he has led education reform in the UK and abroad, driving innovation and equity with the World Bank and Commonwealth Secretariat.
