Applied Machine Learning for Cyber Security, led by Frazer-Nash Consultancy

Nominated by Ian Miles, Frazer-Nash Consultancy

The Applied Machine Learning for Cyber Security (AMLUCS) conference is a non-profit community, now in its fourth year, led by Frazer-Nash Consultancy with the National Cyber Security Centre and Dstl. It brings government, industry and academia together on securing AI and using AI to strengthen cyber defence.

The 2026 event sold out with a record 130 delegates, including the NCSC, Dstl, the AI Security Institute, the MOD, DCMS and the Financial Conduct Authority. A new technical committee and a year-round online community now extend its work beyond the annual event.

Judges' analysis

The judges recognised strong collaboration across the public sector on a national skills gap where AI and cyber security meet, sustained and growing over four years.

Cosine

Lumen Sovereign coalition

Nominated by Sarah Monette, Cosine

Cosine has brought together a coalition to co-design Lumen Sovereign, a frontier AI model built for UK-controlled training and governance, and for deployment inside organisations' own systems, including fully offline. Members include BAE Systems, Babcock, BT, HSBC, Lloyds Banking Group, QinetiQ, Leonardo, LSEG, EY, Deloitte and PwC.

Members share use cases, data and feedback that shape the model's training, and recent additions include Sopra Steria, Kainos, PA Consulting, EDF and HPE. The model is in development, with the coalition preparing for adoption.

Judges' analysis

The judges recognised exceptional breadth across defence, banking, telecoms, consulting and infrastructure, and a user-led approach to building a UK sovereign model squarely on the award's brief.

Elstree Immersive Experience

Nominated by Tina Saul, KINTAL

Led by Adam Morley, this collaboration is creating an inclusive, AI-enabled filmmaking experience at Elstree. It connects local government and the film sector with a UK university, experience designers and an independent AI business.

Its approach starts with what each visitor needs and tests technologies against that, without favouring any provider. So far it has produced six room-by-room design briefs and an animation commission with a UK university, and has helped secure investment for an Elstree digital inclusion hub.

Judges' analysis

The judges recognised a thoughtful, accessibility-first approach to bringing AI into creative experiences, with a method that other cultural venues could reuse.

TX4U

Nominated by Volodymyr Bezditnyi, TX4U

TX4U is building an explainable AI engine for assessing an individual's tax residency across 193 jurisdictions, supporting international tax reporting rules. It is designed for people who live and work across borders, and for financial institutions through an API.

The work brings together partners in four countries: a UK company leading entry into UK and European markets, development in Ukraine, a US base and a licensee for the Middle East and North Africa. Its founder is endorsed under the UK Innovator Founder route.

Judges' analysis

The judges recognised a credible, explainable approach to a complex compliance problem, led from the UK and drawing on partners across several countries.

UK Cancer Vaccine AI Scientist & Supercomputing Project

Nominated by Lennard Lee, University of Oxford

Led from the University of Oxford, this national consortium brings together AI scientists, immunologists, clinicians, engineers, patient leaders and funders including ARIA, the MRC, UKRI, Cancer Research UK and DSIT. Together they are building a complete UK system for designing personalised cancer vaccines with AI.

It has built a billion-parameter AI model trained on UK supercomputers, an "AI Scientist" platform, an autonomous laboratory that has run more than 500 experiments, and UK mRNA manufacturing that has produced a first vaccine prototype. It is now working towards NHS trials in prostate cancer, glioblastoma and melanoma.

Judges' analysis

The judges saw this as the broadest coalition in the category and a world-leading ambition, with a clear case that no single partner could deliver it and capability kept in the UK.
