Six Months On, Are We on Track to Seize the UK’s AI Opportunity? UKAI’s new report, Six-Month Review of the AI Opportunities Action Plan takes a detailed look at what’s been delivered, and what still needs urgent attention, if the UK is to achieve its ambition of becoming a world leader in AI. This is a pivotal moment: the window to lead is narrowing, and decisions made now will shape the UK’s AI future for decades.

UKAI brought together representatives of the AI and creative industries for a roundtable discussion, chaired by Baroness Thangam Debbonaire. The proposed changes to the UK’s copyright law and their impact on the creative industries were top of the agenda. Attendees from the creative sector outlined their concerns alongside helpful context from legal experts and further insights from policy experts. Several attendees from the AI industry presented how their businesses provide specific solutions. The discussion ranged from the core principles of copyright law to how we can use technology for better enforcement.

UKAI invited businesses, third-sector organisations, academia and policymakers to join a roundtable discussion chaired by Matt Warman. The objective was to identify what the UK needs in order to remain globally competitive in the future.  Large and small businesses set out their needs and requirements and shared some of the challenges they have faced in finding talent and developing the skills that they need to grow. A recurring theme was the importance of everyday AI literacy – this enables the workforce but also empowers consumers. Attendees shared a sense of urgency to avoid the UK being left behind and overtaken by countries that are investing in their children’s future.

UKAI has issued a bold call to government for the artificial intelligence economy in the UK, urging immediate regulatory clarity to secure the UK’s position as a global leader in AI innovation. As the UK’s only AI trade association representing the whole AI economy, a new report warns that ambiguity around AI regulations is eroding business confidence, stifling investment, and holding back transformative services for customers across the UK.
